The Division of Humanities and Communication (HCOM) at CSU Monterey Bay seeks an Assistant Professor whose specialty is in both Fiction and Creative Nonfiction Writing to teach undergraduate courses in its Creative Writing and Social Action concentration (CWSA). We seek a candidate who is uniquely qualified and committed to educating working-class, ethnically diverse, and historically under-served students through innovation in interdisciplinary teaching and learning, scholarship, community service, and collaborative and imaginative program development. Appointment Date: August 2011 (Fall Semester 2011).

Responsibilities:
* Develop and teach innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate courses to fulfill learning outcomes in the Concentration in Creative Writing and Social Action and other areas in the major at both upper and lower division levels.
* Participate in the collaborative curricular decision making process with faculty in the Creative Writing and Social Action Concentration, as well as advise CWSA students.
* Periodically, teach Major Proseminar and Senior Capstone, and lower division composition, communication, and literature courses fulfilling related University Learning Requirements.
* In addition to teaching and scholarship, all faculty are expected to engage in academic advising, to assist the department with program assessment, to provide administrative and/or committee work, and to serve on campus-wide committees.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
* An MFA in creative writing, or equivalent terminal degree.
* Demonstrated preparation to teach socially engaged fiction and creative nonfiction courses.
* Promise of publication in the area of creative writing and social action
* Skills required for collaborative curricular decision making and advising students.
