Deadline: 20 September 2010
Geographical Restrictions: none
Reading Fee: none
Accepts (genre): multi-genre
Prize/Payment: publication
Blue Crow Magazine has been created for writers who struggle to get their material published by the mainstream publishers, those autocrats who seem to only want the next edition of what someone else has already penned. We like difference, and individuality, but we are also happy to accept an imitation of not quite the same, (if the work provided is good enough). Novice writers will also be published if their stories show the necessary merit.
Submission Guidelines for October 2010 Issue
Subscriptions to Blue Crow Magazine issue 2 open on 1st August 2010 and close on 20th September 2010. The magazine will be issued early October 2010 in book form through Lulu and will also be available in an online PDF. We want quality short fiction from 500 words to 4,000 words in length, and call also for a limited amount of black and white art. No poetry, children’s stories or non- fiction.
Any story genre will be considered, apart from Mills and Boon romance, or stories with gratuitous violence, violence against women or children etc.... Comedy stories, drama, crime, horror, absurdist pieces, as well as literary fiction are all welcome. (As far as we are concerned, as long as the story is well written, the more variety the better, and as long as the story has quality and is well-written it will be considered.) Please also send with your submission/s a short bio (max. length 60 words). We plan to publish 25 to 30 stories, so space is not infinite. It is not first in first served, though if you send us a story at the last minute your chances of featuring in
the book will not be enhanced.
By submitting your story you authorize Blue Crow to make corrections and (minor) editorial changes where necessary. No appraisals will be done for unsuccessful contributors. There is definitely no preferred theme, though if someone submits a story featuring a mad goose it may be considered favourably.
Good punctuation and grammar will be preferred. All writers must be over the age of 18.
Stories can be submitted from any country on Earth, but must be written in english.
Send up to two stories only per subscriber. The stories must be the sole writer’s own work (no writing teams) and not previously published.
Unfortunately, there is no payment to authors or artists nor any free books at this time,
as Blue Crow runs on a shoestring budget. Featured authors will be offered copies of the book at a reduced price and can be reassured that their work will appear in a quality publication. The first ten Australian authors to advise they have purchased a copy of issue 2 will receive a complimentary copy of issue 1. Send stories in Times New Roman format, double spaced in a word attachment (preferred) to: bluecrowmagazine@bigpond.com ,or in the body of the email.
