Press Gallery Writing Competition (UK)

the Parliamentary Press Gallery supported by the ASCL, the Parliamentary Education Service and the political communications company Dods are holding their seventh annual writing competition. And just as the Press Gallery has changed over the years - we now have bloggers, political websites and Twitter users sitting alongside traditional newspaper reporters - so too has the competition.

While in the past we asked young people to write a speech or an essay, this year we are setting new challenges. For Years 10-11 we want you to imagine you are a party leader who has to send an email to supporters explaining what you are trying to achieve as leader and why they should stay with you. For Years 12-13 we want you to do your own blog on a political event such as a leader’s conference speech, Prime Minister’s questions or leadership hustings.

At the heart of the competition is a genuine wish to reach out to and engage with young people, particularly those who see Westminster as remote place far removed from their daily lives.

Imaginary Jesus Contest

In Imaginary Jesus, Matt Mikalatos discovers that the Jesus he has been following for so long is not the real Jesus at all, but a manmade Jesus who thinks like Matt, talks like Matt, and acts like Matt. At some point in our lives, many of us have also had our own imaginary Jesuses who kept us from knowing how amazing and powerful the true Jesus is. The purpose of this contest is to show and/or write about your experience with an imaginary Jesus, how you came to know that he wasn’t the real thing, and how your relationship with him has changed.

The entrant must be 18 years of age or older.
Send us your submission by July 1, 2010
Winners will be announced by July 16, 2010

In 750 words or less, write us a story, an essay, or a poem, describing your experience with an imaginary Jesus. How did you come to realize that it wasn’t the living, breathing Jesus? How has your relationship with Him changed? Your story may inspire others!
