‘Contemporary American Poetry: an Anthology’ Published
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) in collaboration with National Endowments for the Arts (NEA), Washington, USA has published a bilingual book “Contemporary American Poetry: an Anthology”. This publication is the part of a literary exchange programme between Pakistan and USA at the government level. The book comprises three poems each of 35 contemporary American poets with Urdu translations.

The ministries of education and culture and the staff of American Embassy in Islamabad generously cooperated with PAL in compilation of this task. The publication of this book will bring the two nations closer, culturally and socially and will dispel many misconceptions. It will also provide glimpses of American literary trends and lifestyle to the Pakistan’s readers. The Urdu translation with each poem will make the American poetry comprehensible to Urdu readers.

Under this international literary exchange programme, NEA is also publishing a book “Modern Poetry of Pakistan: an Anthology”. This book comprises English translation of the poems of 42 prominent Pakistani Urdu, Punjabi, Saraiki, Sindhi, Pushto, Baluchi and Kashmiri poets. It is hoped that the book would offer a delightful reading generally to those who are interested in poetry and in particular to those students, scholars and readers who have keen interest in American literature and poetry.
