2010 PADMA Award Winners in India
‘Padma Awards’ are India’s highest civilian awards which are given in three categories including ‘Padma Vibhushan’, ‘Padma Bhushan’ and ‘Padma Shri’. Every year, on the eve of Republic day, Government of India will announce the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushans and Padma Shree awards to those Indian people for their distinguished contributions in various fields like arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, social service and public life etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ award is considered as India’s second highest civilian award after ‘Bharat Ratna’ which is the highest civilian award. This is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. ‘Padma Bhushan’ is the country’s third highest civilian award which is awarded for distinguished service of high order and the fourth highest civilian award is ‘Padma Shri which is for distinguished service in any field. President of India announced the list of the ‘ 2010 Padma Award’ winners on 25th January, 2010. This year’s list includes the names of 130 awardees, including 13 foreigners, NRIs and PIO. The list contains the names of 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri award winners Many famous people got this prestigious award. Nobel prize winner Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Oscar award winner famous musician A R Rahman, former RBI governor Y V Reddy, Apollo Hospitals Group chairman Prathap Chandra Reddy, eminent theatre personality Zohra Sahgal, Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, Rekha and Saif Ali Khan, cricketer Virendra Sehwag, boxer Vijender Singh and ace badminton player Saina Nehwal are among the Padma awards winners this year. These awards will be given by the President of India at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March or April. List of these award winners are given below:
