Newspaper in Multiple Scripts and Multiple Languages: Issues and Challenges for National Heritage

IFLA INTERNATIONAL NEWSPAPER CONFERENCE 2011 invites paper submissions, which may address theoretical, research or practical aspects which related to the following themes (papers not explicitly addressing the themes are also welcomed):

1. News in multiple scripts and multiple languages: Challenges in access and preservation

2. Library and publisher perspectives on copyright, intellectual property, legal deposit, and preservation of news

3. Metadata standards, consistency, and harmony (or not?) for digitized historical newspapers, born digital newspapers, and online newspapers and news

4. Online news: Technical and budgetary challenges for web harvesting, preservation, and access

5. User case studies of news and newspaper digital libraries

6. News digital library services and access

7. Publisher perspectives on news production, news standards (NITF, hNews, etc), news preservation, access to news, digital libraries, and collaboration with libraries

8. News aggregator perspectives on news standards, news preservation, access to news, and collaboration with news producers and libraries

9. Software company perspectives on library standards, preservation, access, digital libraries, and project management

10. Library perspectives on library standards, news preservation, access to news, digital libraries, and budgets

11. Marketing and promotion of news library services

12. Selection of newspapers for digitization and preservation

Abstracts Submission

Abstract must not exceed 200 words, using 12 point type for text, 14 point type for title, and single spacing. All abstracts should be in Microsoft word document or Adobe Portable Format (PDF). Authors should submit their abstract together with a copy of their biodata and passport-sized picture via electronic to: azharn@petronas.com.my, laili_ashikeen@petronas.com.my and mohd.sharif@gmail.com. Only selected abstract will be notified. Abstracts should clearly state the purpose, results and conclusions of the work to be described in the final paper. Final acceptance will be based on the full-length paper, which if accepted for publication, must be presented at the conference.
