Second Toronto Nepali Film Festival - Call for Submissions
Toronto Nepali Film Festival (TNFF) is now accepting entries for its 2nd Festival to be held on March 26, 2011 at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
TNFF seeks to promote and support Nepali filmmaking, educate our audience of contemporary Nepali issues through films, create a platform for dialogue between Nepali and international filmmakers, and create a intercultural dialogue by bringing diverse audience under one roof.
All films screened at the Festival will be paid an honorarium.
Eligibility
TNFF will showcase films that pertain to Nepal and is not limited to filmmakers of Nepali heritage. TNFF encourages indigenous dialects such as Limbu, Maithali, Newar and Gurung. However all films must have English subtitles. The Festival also encourages diverse genres such as fiction, documentary, animation, shorts, experimental and others. The Festival will only accept films in DVD format, either PAL or NTSC.

Any submission received after the submission deadline will not be reviewed.
Selection Process
The curatorial committee of the Festival will review all the submissions during January 2011. All the filmmakers will be notified via email by January 31, 2011. Film selection will be publicly announced on TNFF website and other promotional sites and materials after January 31. The 2011 festival jurors are:
John Sharkey worked at the Canadian Film Centre in Ottawa before moving to Toronto to become the senior programmer for Perspective Canada program at the Toronto International Film Festival. Later he worked as a programmer/administrator at Canadian Film Centre while he developed and co-coordinated a community television station at Bain Apartments Co-operative Inc., where he lives. As producer/ director he has produced video series and programs, including The March to End Homelessness for a housing lobbying group in Toronto. Most recently he coordinated film programming at the Toronto Palestine Film Festival and popular theatrical exhibitions for Toronto Bolivia Solidarity.
Sapana Sakya is the Media Fund Director at the Centre for Asian American Media in California, where she manages CPB funding initiatives and supports independent filmmakers. Sapana’s background is in independent documentary and journalism. She produced and directed Daughters of Everest, an award-wining film about the first Nepali women’s Everest expedition. Her other works include Oklahoma Home, about two Filipino doctors living and working in rural Oklahoma, part of the series Searching for Asian America. She also produced and directed, Red White Blue.
Surendra Lawoti is a Nepali photographer and lives and works in Toronto. His work has been exhibited in Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Chicago and Boston in the US, Medellin, Colombia and Kathmandu, Nepal. He has received awards from Ontario Arts Council, Artadia, Community Arts Assistance Program through City of Chicago and Somerville Arts Council. He teaches photography at Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto as an Adjunct Faculty. He is the Festival Curator of TNFF.
Instructions for Submission
All submissions must include the following:
1. Completed Entry form (2 pages).
2. One copy of DVD, PAL or NTSC.
3. Brief description or synopsis of the entry (60 words or less in English).
4. Brief biography of the filmmaker. Include other films, previous screenings, awards and other relevant information (60 words or less in English).
5. Two high-resolution production stills (300 dpi, 1000 pixels on the long side, TIFF or JPEG format only) in CD.
6. Label all the media with your name, title of the work and date of production.
Multiple entries are accepted, but each entry must have a completed entry form. Any incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.

TNFF will not accept or collect C.O.D. shipments and will not accept shipments incurring expenses for duties, taxes or customs brokerage.
Please carefully package your submission. TNFF cannot assume responsibility for damage or loss incurred during shipment.
