Entries are now open for the 2010 International Humanitarian Law writing competition for postgraduate and undergraduate journalism students.
The Australian and New Zealand Red Cross, in association with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is offering a $1,000 prize for the winning submission on their theme: ‘Let them through and keep them safe’.
The competition seeks to illuminate the threats that aid workers and journalists are confronted with in armed conflict and the rules that limit the effects set in International Humanitarian Law (IHL). This is a chance to learn more about the rights and responsibilities that journalists face when reporting from and on war zones.
The 1,000-word feature should be original, relevant to the theme, analytical and well written.
Winning articles will be published in Red Cross publications and/or local newspapers. Second place winners will receive $500 and third place $250.
Entries close 5pm Friday September 17th; judging will be completed by Friday October 15th.
All entries must be submitted to: journalistcomp@redcross.org.au
