Gems of Wisdom: 365 Days of Poetry and Prose by Elders
To be released in May 2011

A forum where writers may share their experiences and wisdom. This contest is free and an opportunity to see your work and wisdom in print. Our mission is to afford elders the freedom to be and become who they truly are. We are committed to changing the view of aging as something to be celebrated, cherished and anticipated with joy.

In support of this mission, Barnes & Noble will donate a portion of proceeds from book sales to AgeSong Institute’s non-profit fund.

CONTEST GUIDELINES:

1. Poems can be rhyming or non-rhyming. Poems limited to 20 lines. Prose limited to 250 words.
2. There is no age requirement. Authors may be anyone who considers himself or herself an elder.
3. We suggest that you write about real emotions and feelings and keep a special person or event in mind as you write. For example, questions to ponder: What was it all about? Would you do it again? What is your relationship with the world? What do you want to teach someone?
4. Poems and Prose are judged on the basis of uniqueness, style and message.
5. English-language entries only. No graphics.
6. Entries limited to 1 poem or 1 prose per author.
7. Entries limited to residents of California.

CONTEST RULES:

All entries must be the original creation of the submitting author. All rights to the entries must be owned by the author and shall remain the property of the author. The author gives permission to AgeSong and related entities and Barnes and Noble to publish and display the entry on-line in promotions and in the book. Winners will be contacted within 90 days after the deadline date. Contest is open to everyone. Void where prohibited.
