The Golden Point Award is Singapore’s premier creative writing competition for Short Story and Poetry in the nation’s four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Established by the National Arts Council since 1993, the national literary writing competition serves as a significant platform for literary excellence and launching new writers. The competition’s aims are to identify and nurture new creative writing talent, develop the literary penmanship of writers in Singapore and to create a conducive environment for creative thinking and literary expression in Singapore.
The submission of entries will close on 1 July 2013, 5pm. The results of the competition will be revealed at the GPA Prize-Giving Ceremony, which will be held during the 2013 Singapore Writers Festival in early November.
CATEGORIES
The competition consists of the following two genre categories for all four languages:

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE:
The competition is open only to writers who, at time of application, have yet to publish a solo work in the specific genre they are competing in. A solo work refers to a full-length work published by a Singaporean or international publishing company, sold or distributed commercially. Writers who have been published in journals or anthologies (whether online or in print) are eligible to enter.
The Rules and Regulations of the Golden Point Award are available in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. In case of ambiguity over the translation of the rules and regulations, the English version shall prevail.
There will be a registration fee of S$16 per entry [cash or cheque] and the Closing Date for receipt of all entries is on 1 July 2013, 5pm.
For all cash payments please come to our office between 10.00am – 5.30pm and cheques can be mailed to the address below with the entries.” to “Payment in the form of cheque must be made payable to “National Book Development Council of Singapore”. Please do not send cash by post.

PRIZES

- 1st Prize 4,000 cash, a trophy, a $6,000 enrichment grant and a Caran d’Ache writing instrument worth $500
- 2nd Prize $3,000 and a certificate
- 3rd Prize $2,000 and a certificate
- Merit Prize In the event that none of the above prizes are awarded, Merit Awards of $500 may be awarded instead.
- Honourable Mention Certificate awarded to participants who have shown promise in their writing. Up to 3 Honourable Mentions can be awarded per genre per language category.
