Call for Entries: Singapore Press Holdings YOUth Write Creative Writing Competition 2013

Singapore Press Holdings Foundation has launched a creative writing competition to mark its 10th Anniversary this year. Titled YOUth Write, the competition is open to secondary school students nationwide. This inaugural competition is a collaboration with IN, a student publication by The Straits Times.

COMPETITION MECHANICS:
  • YOUth Write is a creative writing competition organised by the Singapore Press Holdings Foundation, in collaboration with IN, a student publication by The Straits Times.
  • YOUth Write is open to all Secondary One to Secondary Five students (or equivalent).
  •  Essays should be between 400 and 500 words.
  • IN will be running a series of creative writing tips in its publication. Teachers and students are encouraged to make use of these resources for this competition.
Students can choose to submit their essays in either one of the formats:
  • Topic essay: How youth / I can make a difference in Singapore; or
  • Complete the following story: Being a young person in Singapore, I know I have the power to make things better…
JUDGING CRITERIA:
  • Content (50%)
  • Originality (30%)
  • Language (20%)
PRIZES:
  • 1st Prize: iPad Mini + $300 cash + Certificate
  • 2nd Prize: Canon Digital Camera + $200 cash + Certificate
  • 3rd Prize: iPod Touch + $100 cash + Certificate
The school that is most represented among the shortlisted entries will receive a trophy.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

  • Email your completed registration form and your essay.
  • Deadline for submission is 14 April 2013, midnight.
