ICAN Student Essay Competition: Win a Trip to One of the Word's Top Cities (India)
Deadline: 31 May 2013

ICAN is a global campaign coalition working to mobilize people in all countries to inspire, persuade and pressure their governments to initiate and support negotiations for a treaty banning nuclear weapons. The campaign was launched in 2007, and is now active in more than 60 countries worldwide.

ICAN ESSAY CONTEST IN INDIA

ICAN and the London-based Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy today launched an essay competition for Indian university students on India’s role in negotiating a global ban on nuclear weapons. The winning entrant will win a trip to one of the world’s top cities to participate in an ICAN international civil society conference.

The conference will be an opportunity to talk strategy, learn new campaigning techniques, network with others working for nuclear disarmament and build relationships to help bring about a nuclear-weapon-free world. All travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses will be covered by ICAN and the Acronym Institute.

The competition is open only to students of Indian universities. To enter, please tell us in no more than 2,000 words why you think the humanitarian imperative for nuclear disarmament is relevant to India and what role India should play in negotiating a global ban on nuclear weapons.

Submissions must be received by 31 March 2013. Email your submission with “ICAN Student Essay Competition” in the subject line. The winner will be notified by email by 31 May 2013.
