Writing the City's Migrant Stories Competition (Singapore)

11 September 2012
Writing the City's Migrant Stories Competition (Singapore)
Deadline: 30 September 2012

Of boat people, curry-eaters, and a hot pot of cultural stew.

In line with Playback Theatre’s Encounters project, Writing the City invites you to submit a piece surrounding the theme of migrant stories.

See from the perspective of another. Imagine what it’s like to arrive on these shiny shores for the first time. What do you run from, and what would you hope for? Every character has a background story; weave it into your piece.

Perhaps it’s a story handed down from your grandmother, told to you by the wrinkly man who runs the local grocer, one you’ve made up in your head while looking at passers-by who caught your eye or even your own story.

Write in any genre of your choosing as long as it is based on this theme. Our judges will be looking out for emotive pieces that bring the migrants’ story to the reader.

Winners will receive the following prizes:
  • First Prize: $120 Kinokuniya Book Voucher
  • 2 runners up will receive London 2012 Olympic notebooks
Entries submitted before 20 Sep will be considered for Playback Theatre’s Encounters Exhibition.

Please make sure that you pay close attention to following all the rules and instructions below when entering the Competition:
