Job Vacancy: Business Editor at Gulf News (Dubai, UAE)
Gulf News is looking to appoint a Bilingual Business editor to lead its editorial Business team in a highly competitive environment. This position needs an experienced editor with excellent news judgment, editing abilities and the capability to drive content that maintains the news organisation’s market leadership. Applicants must exhibit a track record of being ahead of the curve with breaking news coverage, enterprise reporting and sound/ethical journalistic skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conceptualizes and realizes original content generation.
  • Plan all content within the Business section.
  • Assigns and maximizes resources to gather content. (e.g. people, syndication etc).
  • Follow-up on timely gathering of content.
  • Ensure text conforms to Gulf News standards.
  • Publish content across all media channels
  • Determines through selection the hierarchy, suitability and quality of the content
  • Alert the Hub Editor and other Section Heads on important content for Page One, prominent or immediate publication for all media channels.
  • Take final responsibility for published content. (e.g. sign off final pages, approval of content to Web)
THE WINNING CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • 7 years in journalism and 3 years in similar position.
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Arabic skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to mentor, motivate and manage.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to coach and mentor to ensure quality of content production from all direct reports.
  • Being up to date and well aware of local and regional media competition and being on top of the news agenda.
