With the aim of nurturing the next generation of writers and digital storytellers, Janus Education, together with its publication arm Experiences & Experiments, organises two of Singapore's most prestigious regional awards: the Young Author Awards (YAA) and the DigiTales Awards (DTA). With industry-based, academic and media partners and advisers, both the YAA and the DTA are recognised and supported by the Media Development Authority (MDA), the National Library Board (NLB), the Singapore Book Publishers Association (SBPA) and the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS).

YOUNG AUTHOR AWARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. The Young Author Awards 2012/13 is open to all students in Singapore and in the Southeast Asian Region who are enrolled in either primary or secondary school and is below 18 years old.

2. Entries must be in English.

3. Entries must be a minimum of 2,000 words for the Primary category and a minimum of 5,000 words for the Secondary category.

4. Entries must include the following:
  • Synopsis/ Summary
  • Author’s profile
  • Dedication
  • Original book cover illustration (you may submit a scanned copy of your illustration)
5. Entries can be from any of the following genres:
  • Science Fiction
  • Magic and Fantasy
  • Ghosts and Ghouls
  • Heartwarmers
  • Mystery and Adventure
  • Animal Tales
  • Asian Tales
6. There is no limit to the number of entries submitted.

7. Entries must be of original work and not previously published.

8. Entries must be submitted as specified. Deadline of submission is on 30 September 2012.

9. Winners will also stand a chance for their stories to be published in paperback or multimedia format. (Parents/ guardians will be executing the contract on their behalf).

YOUR CHARACTER:

Important! When you submit your character profile and your tale, make sure you wait for the confirmation that your entry has been submitted to YAA 2012. You may submit as many entries as you want, but you can submit each entry only once.

If you discover that you have made a mistake in your submission, you can immediately email the Janus Council explaining the mistake(s), as long as it’s before the submission deadline (30 Sep 2012).
