International Applicants Welcomed | Job Vacancy: Remote Editor for Crafttuts+ (competitive rate | worldwide)
(Note: The Editor would be working remotely [so can be based anywhere], joining Tuts+'s existing team of editors in Australia, Europe, and the USA.)

We're always looking to expand into new areas with the Tuts+ network — just last month, we’ve launched both Mactuts+ and Gamedevtuts+ — and we have some really exciting sites planned for the rest of the year as well!

Most of the skills we teach at present are computer-based. Photoshop, web development, WordPress, After Effects — all of these are fairly “high tech” sites. With our next project, we’re going to be teaching something slightly different: Craft!

Crafttuts+ will be launching soon, and we’re currently looking for an editor for the site. Read on to find out about the job requirements, and decide whether you’d like to apply!

WHAT IS CRAFTTUTS+?

Crafttuts+ will be the go-to resource for learning about handmade craft. We’ll be teaching how to make high quality, unique craft products, and giving readers advice on how to sell and market their craft to generate income! The usual “step-by-step” approach of Tuts+ will still apply — in each tutorial, we’ll walk people through the process of making a particular item.

The scope of the craft we cover will be broad — clothing, furniture, needlecraft, glass, housewares, jewellery, paper, ceramics, accessories, candles, vintage, and everything in-between!

We’re looking for an editor who has strong knowledge of all these areas, with their finger on the pulse of the craft community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The role of a Tuts+ editor is incredibly varied, but the most important thing you’ll be doing is planning an exciting content strategy around cutting-edge craft techniques, and managing a team of writers. You’ll turn your passion for all things crafty into an incredible source of education!

You’ll also interact with the community of readers, proof-read article submissions, respond to comments, handle the admin behind the site, and stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the world of craft!

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Be a nice person!
  • A passion for teaching and demonstrating craft
  • Excellent language and communication skills
  • Strong portfolio of craft projects
  • Well organised
  • Basic photography and video knowledge (we want our tutorials to look great!)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with running a blog (ideally on a craft-related topic)
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Basic knowledge of WordPress
  • Good sense of humour :-)

JOB DETAILS
  • You can work from anywhere
  • The time commitment is 20 hours per week
  • Competitive rate as a contractor
  • We provide access to most of the web services you need to use, though you’ll need to have access to your own software (e.g. Photoshop etc)

If you meet the essential requirements above (and, ideally, a few of the preferred ones!) we’d love to hear from you.
