AWAN, Arab Media Consultants, is seeking twelve individuals (men and women), who can demonstrate serious interest in pursuing a career in journalism, to participate in the Digital Journalism Boot Camp. The Boot Camp will give aspiring journalists the opportunity to work closely with veteran media professionals in an intensive training program and support in job placement after graduation.
An ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to write, with clarity and insight, as well as a genuine desire to pursue a career in digital journalism.
The aim of the Boot Camp is to build journalism and multi-media skills in its participants, so that by the end of the program they would be able to investigate, develop, write and produce a story for a Web-news publication that would be accurate balanced and informative. Moreover, each participant should have gained a thorough understanding of the professional and legal framework of practicing journalism in Jordan.
CALENDAR:
The first phase of the program will consist of a total of five days of practical and theoretical digital journalism training, delivered by veteran media professionals for five consecutive Saturdays.
During the second phase of the training program, boot campers will be placed in intermediate internships in digital media outlets, for a total of 22 days over the course of six weeks, where they will be further equipped with the contacts and skills necessary to begin to practice journalism in electronic publications.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection of twelve participants for the boot camp program will begin with a multi-pronged search for men and women who are able to demonstrate interest, potential and promise in the field of digital journalism, but who might not have had extensive training or experience in a formal setting. Applications will be screened by a selection committee (comprised of representatives from AWAN and media experts), according to rigorous professional and/or academic criteria. - Building Basic Skills in Electronic Media: The topics are designed to give newcomers to the field of digital journalism a comprehensive understanding of the profession from theoretical and practical perspectives
- Journalism and New Media Forums: Language of instruction and materials will be Arabic, with verbal and written translation provided by trainers and/or experts when necessary
- Telling a Story through Images: All training topics will be oriented toward practicing digital journalism in the Jordanian media sector

- Written statement of interest in journalism: 30 points
- Written statement of qualifications: 20 points
- Computer and Internet literacy: 20 points
- Demonstrated ability to write with clarity and insight (samples): 10 points
- Professional, academic and/or character references: 10 points
- Fluency in Arabic (knowledge of English is a plus): 10 points
- TOTAL 100 points
