Fairfax Business Media Asia (FBM) is seeking applications from young and promising writers for the position of Staff Writer/Journalist to help support the following media properties (online and print): mis-asia.com; CIO Asia; Computerworld Singapore; Computerworld Malaysia; and, MIS Asia. The mis-asia.com portal and its component sites altogether get a high volume of traffic and have a social media following; their respective audiences are also expected to expand in the coming years as FBM deepens its digital investment. This position reports to the Online Editor and will be based in the company’s Singapore office.

FULL-TIME JOB VACANCY STAFF WRITER/JOURNALIST

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Generate news articles and other content for mis-asia.com, cio-asia.com, www.computerworld.com.sg and www.computerworld.com.my.
  • Supplement content on mis-asia.com, cio-asia.com, www.computerworld.com.sg and www.computerworld.com.my with updated stories from the newswires.
  • Represent FBM and its media properties at media events/press conferences.
  • Interviewing newsmakers and writing news pieces and feature stories for online and print editions of media properties.
  • Work with the rest of the editorial team and the marketing department to promote media properties and FBM events in social media.
  • Maintain and grow the social media following of FBM titles on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter; promote FBM media statements and reports via the most effective social media channel.
  • Carry out any other tasks as requested by the Online Editor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications is required. A bachelor’s degree in English is preferred.
  • Experience: Some work done in journalism (online or for print) and web editing desirable.

RELATED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English are required. (Please provide unedited samples of your writing along with your application.)
  • Experience working with social media channels–particularly LinkedIn and Facebook–is required. Please provide Twitter handle if available. YouTube experience desirable. A basic understanding of SEO is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working on a Content Management System (CMS) is preferred.
  • Proven track record as a writer and/or editor is desirable.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and logically is required. Ability to recognise editorial opportunities is strongly desired.
  • Ability and self-motivation to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a member of a team is required.
  • Flexibility in responding quickly to events as they occur and producing excellent written material under tight deadlines is required.
  • Experience with a wire service, newspaper, or online journalism site or other news organisation is desirable.
  • Some understanding and knowledge of the local, regional and global information and communication technology (ICT) industry is desirable but not essential.
