Deadline: 31 July 2012
Raden Saleh was not only one of Indonesia’s most famous painters who lived in the 19th century, he was also a collector of historic documents, a landscape gardener and he even founded a zoo. He spent 25 years of his life living and studying in Europe and maintained life-long friendships there. Not fitting into any societal categories of his times, he was also inspired to create his own style of fashion. Raden Saleh is sometimes regarded as “father of the Javanese modernity” because he pioneered a new way of thinking and artistic expression.
Goethe-Institut and Badan Kerjasama Kesenian Indonesia (BKKI) represented by Pak Pak Wardiman Djojonegoro invite you to dive right into the history and achievements of Raden Saleh.
