Hewlett Packard's Write & Read Short Story Contest for Youth (P360,000 cash in prizes | Philippines)
Deadline: 31 August 2012

Bright ideas open doors that lead to brilliant paths. This year, Hewlett-Packard (HP) Philippines is encouraging young minds to showcase their A+ writing talent in the country’s newest search for Manila’s top young short story writers.

From June 1 until August 31, students from Grade 4 to 4th year high school from public and private schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) can join the Write&Read Short Story Contest and transform their ideas into reality.

To enter, aspiring authors must submit an original short story to be supplemented by an illustration—anything from a painting, a sketch, or a collage—as long as they are relevant to the story. Entries must be written in English (typewritten or computerized) and must be between 500 - 750 words for Junior Division; 1200 - 1500 words for Senior Division.

Ten participants with the most creative entries will advance to the On-The-Spot Writing Challenge where they will be asked to write an essay based on a given illustration.

Big prizes are in store as all ten finalists will win an HP laptop, an HP Ink Advantage printer and one HP Ink Advantage All-in-One printer for the school. The first place winner will also receive an additional PHP 100,000, PHP 40,000 for second place, PHP 20,000 for third place, and PHP 10,000 for two citations. Winning pieces will shine in the literary spotlight as they will be published in a special compilation.
