We are excited to officially launch the 2012 Hidden Harmonies Essay Contest. In doing this, we hope to bring more awareness to the ‘Chinese’ perspective. The best 3 essays will be awarded prizes with an iPad2 going to the top essay. This year’s topic will answer the following question:
Every society has a set of values around which it builds its culture. The West likes to think its most important value is freedom. What do think are the most important Chinese values, and how do you think they might be better than those in the West?
To qualify, entrants must be a college/university student in China or a Chinese student studying in college/university abroad. Deadline for submission is June 15, 2012.

SPONSORSHIP: This essay contest is sponsored by the Hidden Harmonies China blog (hiddenharmonies.org). Our goal is to help foster understanding between China and the world. Through this contest, we hope to lend voice to ordinary people from inside China so their perspectives can be heard.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Entrant must be a college/university student studying in China or a Chinese student currently studying abroad. Graduate or post-doctoral students are also eligible.

Essays will not be returned to the author; they become property of Hidden Harmonies China blog. The blog may reprint the essays and reproduce in part for use in other medium. Appropriate citations will be given to the writers.
JUDGING: Judging will be done by Hidden Harmonies China blog contributors.

- 2nd Prize Winner will receive $100.

- Each essay must reflect the contestant’s own research, writing and original thinking.
- Only one (1) essay may be submitted by each contestant.
- Essays must be typed.
