Call for Submissions: Ateneo Heights’ 60th Anniversary Special Issue (Philippines)

Since 1952, HEIGHTS, as an Atenean publication and organization, has stood as a local bastion of literature and the arts. In its pursuit to deepen literary and artistic appreciation, HEIGHTS continues to publish both emerging and established writers and artists from the University. The Publication’s roster of distinguished alumni is testament to its tradition of creative excellence, including notable individuals such as Jose Lacaba, Benilda Santos, and Larry Ypil. We implore you to take part in this tradition by contributing for this 60th anniversary folio.

MECHANICS

1. HEIGHTS now accepts literary and artistic submissions for possible inclusion in the special folio of the sixtieth anniversary. Alumni, faculty members, professionals, undergraduate and graduate students of the Ateneo de Manila University are invited to contribute.

2. Written works in the following genres will be accepted:
  • Poetry / tula
  • Fiction / kuwento
  • Essay / sanaysay
  • One-act play / excerpt from a full-length work
  • Criticism (about literature and / or visual arts)
  • Translation (to either English or Filipino)

3. Visual art submissions in the following mediums and genres will be accepted:
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • Digital / photo manipulation
  • Any other visual medium
  • All art submissions should be formatted in CMYK with a resolution of 300 dpi. Kindly specify the dimensions and medium of the artwork.

4. All submissions should be original. Previously published and exhibited works are also accepted as long as it is indicated.

5. All submissions should be accompanied by a short bio - note of the author. Kindly include the following information:
  • Year and course / institutional affiliation in the Ateneo (e.g. AB Literature 2012 / Department of English)
  • Email address
  • Contact details (telephone and cellphone numbers)
  • Mailing address

6. Write “LX” as the subject of your email submission.

7. Direct your submissions to the following email addresses:
  • For artworks: art.heights@gmail.com
  • For works in English: heights.english@gmail.com
  • For works in Filipino: heights.filipino@gmail.com

8. All submissions will undergo deliberations by the editors and the respective staffs of the Publication. The identity and background of the contributors will not be considered in the process.

9. The editorial board shall reserve the right to edit, to turn down, and to solicit works for the special folio. Contributors will be notified regarding the status of their works.
