nether invites submissions of fiction, work related to fiction, paraphernalia used in fiction - for our 5th print issue, in which we intend to veer slightly from the usual feature of unbalanced poetry and prose, by devoting a large number of pages to fiction alone. We also remain open to regular submissions throughout this period. But, in preference, as we've mentioned, we're hunting for fiction. We don't have a deadline, as of yet.
ABOUT
nether, an imprint of nether Books, is a quarterly print journal (fortnightly online) of literature and art located in Bombay, India. Our primary focus is on literature from India and the Asian continent which contains it, but this never implies a necessary thematic link to the region in the work. Above all, we’re interested in publishing all the potential variations in contemporary writing from anywhere in the world.
SHORT GUIDE:
. Please send all your work in a single submission file as opposed to submitting each poem/piece individually.
. We can only consider unpublished work. By unpublished we mean work which has not appeared anywhere else: in paper or online. We don’t consider blog posts as published work, though you could remove them before letting us have a read .
. We accept submissions in any season, work sent after a particular timeline will be reviewed for the next issue.
. Please give us at least a month to acknowledge your submission. If we still don’t reply, you can activate your redoubtable counters.
. Paste your submissions in the body of the mail or attach them as word/pdf documents.
. In some rare cases we might suggest a few editorial changes to a submitted text, and the author will be notified at each step of the process. Heavy bios are also likely to be edited.
. If you are submitting your work simultaneously to other publications: You know what to do.
. Published authors receive one copy of the issue in which their work appears.
. The copyright always remains with the author, we only expect first-publication rights and the permission to reproduce it online/print in the future.
. Use the blog and submission address copiously for anything you’d like to say or bring to our notice. We love hearing from you.
We really try to work closely with writers and want to get to their best. Very often we urge them to resubmit if we are drawn to their work — Some trust us and do, and then, as it has happened a number of times, after as many as 4-5 submissions; both writer and we find something really great. That’s truly exciting! We also want to take this opportunity to dispel rumours about us being fugitive robots from a botched governmental experiment. So, you might have heard this before, but, if we decide not to publish something please don’t take it personally. Give us another chance, and another. Ours is a small, fierce literary community and we’re all, every once in a while , at the other end of the glass.
There are no restrictions in form, style, or content in any of these categories:
