Call for Papers: 7th Annual Conference (Tayabas Studies and Creative Writing Center, Phliippines)

The Tayabas Studies and Creative Writing Center is issuing an open call for papers for its 7th Tayabas Province Studies Conference. The center, also the Alternatibong Tahanan ng mga Akda at Gawang Nasaliksik (ATAGAN), aims that the conference be a venue of discussion for topics about the province of Tayabas, renamed as Quezon in honor of Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon in 1946. The event is tentatively scheduled for August 17-19, 2012 in Gumaca, Quezon.

The theme for this year is PANHIK: Stages and Stations in Tayabas Province (Pamana, ANi, Halaga, Industriya at Kultura). Possible paper subjects inculde; Topics on railroad or railroad stations traversing Quezon province, Stories about industries in Quezon province (flourmills, handicrafts, sea products, coal mines, gold mines, lime mines, distillieries, etc.), Festivals in Quezon province, Churches and local structures of worship and/or defense (i.e. watchtowers and castillos), Science and health issues (19th-century public health conditions, culinary science, local diseases, local health programs, etc.), Language (local dialect, Tayabas-tagalog, etc.), Legends of/in Quezon towns (local heroes, other important personages, groups, cults, etc.), or Arts and music in Quezon town (local museums, heritage structures, paintings, films, and local tours, among others). Submitters are also encouraged to suggest other topics for their papers.
