Deadline: 14 October 2011
The Japanese consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Tuoi Tre have launched their third biennial haiku contest for Vietnamese and Japanese living in Vietnam.
Vietnamese participants in the “Vietnam – Japan Haiku Contest” can send up to six verses in either Vietnamese or Japanese, while Japanese can send up to three poems in Vietnamese to the consulate at 13 – 17 Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, or to thithohaiku@gmail.com.
Entries will be received until October 14.
Launched in 2007 along with the University of Social Sciences and Humanity, the contest has become popular and unveiled many poetic talents.
Haiku, one of the most important forms of traditional Japanese poetry, is a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.
Since the poems are mainly about nature, each must contain a word for a season to indicate in which season it is set.
