The Assistant Postmaster General for Marketing shall preside and convene a group of judges who shall select the winning entries. The group shall be guide by the Rules of the UPU international letter-writing competition for young people set for this year’s event. Posters, flyers and other forms of promotional materials shall be prepared and distributed to post offices and schools nationwide.
The purpose of this project is to develop the young people’s skills in composition and the subtlety of their thoughts, to foster affection for letter writing, and to contribute to the strengthening of international friendship — one of the essential missions of the UPU. On top of this, the promotion of letter writing would certainly arrest the fast declining volume of personal correspondence that is being affected by alternative and modern communications technology.
The main objective, therefore, is to stimulate letter writing among the youth especially with the growing number of Overseas Filipino workers numbering around 9 million as of today. Their presence abroad is undoubtedly a very good opportunity for the Corporation to increase its postage sales once we succeed in promoting the habit of letter writing among their friends and relatives. Further, this year’s theme is all the more appropriate and imperative for the postal service to have a direct hand in its promotion.
