The Sri Lanka-India Society is conducting the Shrimathi Indira Gandhi Memorial essay competition among the students of G.C.E. (A/L) and O/L classes in schools or colleges in Sri Lanka with a view to promote social and cultural relationship between Sri Lanka and India.
The best essay will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.00 and a Medal and a certificate. Second and Third prizes of Rs. 5,000.00 and Rs. 2,500.00 respectively will be awarded with medals and certificates. The schools/colleges of those winners will be presented with collections of books for the respective school/college libraries.
Candidates vying for the prizes should submit an essay on one of the topics - Mahathma Gandhi’s life and philosophy: a new leaf in the history of the world; Rabindranath Tagore’s message to the modern world; India as a world power in the 21st century; Expectations of Sri Lankans from India today.
The essays should be submitted to reach the Society on or before 30th June 2011 by registered post or local courier to the Project Chairman, Sri Lanka India Society Essay Competition, M & N Building (Level 5), No. 2. Deal Place, Colombo 00300. .
The writer of the essay should have his essay certified by the Principal of his school/college as one written by him and that he is a student of GCE O/L or A/L class of that school/college on the date of certification
