For our Jewish friends in Santa Barbara, California:
Deadline: 1 September 2011
Congregation B’nai B’rith plans to publish a book of original poems written by members of the Santa Barbara community, from our youngest to our oldest. All proceeds will go to support CBB’s preschool -Beit Ha Yeladim. Not all poems submitted will be selected for the book. Judges will be looking for outstanding poems, especially those that celebrate experiences, values, and traditions of being Jewish.
Poetry Guidelines
• Submit up to three poems. There is no entry fee.
• Poems may be rhymed or free-verse.
• Each entry should be the poet’s original work.
• If submitting hard copy, please type your poems on 8 ½” x 11” paper, double-spaced. If you prefer to submit your poems electronically, e-mail your poems as attachments in a Microsoft Word file.
• Previously published poems will be accepted.
• Submit two copies of each poem; one with your name and phone number and one copy without.
• Enclose the entry form with your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, plus a list of the title(s) of the poem(s) you are submitting.
• Poems will not be returned. Please retain a copy of any poems submitted.
• Length of poems: up to 40 lines; each line not to exceed 58 characters including spaces
• Please do not use all caps in the title or body of the poem.
• Copyright of each poem remains with the author, but Congregation B’nai B’rith has the unrestricted right to publish the selected poems in a book, in the Voices newsletter, and on the CBB website, as well as retaining unrestricted rights to use the selected poems for PR purposes.

All submissions must be received no later than September 1, 2011.
Poems accepted for publication will be announced mid-September, 2011. We’re looking for a published book by mid-December- just in time for Hanukkah gift-giving!

Please include the information from the entry form (Name, address, telephone number, your e-mail address. Include age for entries in the Youth Category – those under 18 years of age) in the body of the e-mail. The poems should be sent as e-mail attachments in a Microsoft Word file. Include two copies of each poem, one with your name and phone number and one without. Also include the entry form as a separate document.
