With over 300,000 books on sale, there is something in the Singapore Book Fair for everyone. You can also find educational programmes, teaching resources, language aids, electronic learning kits, IQ toys, arts and craft, and stationery.


At this annual learning fest, we have lined up a multi-faceted programme to keep you entertain and engage. Our theme for this year is creativity. You can:

* Pick up creative writing tips from published authors
* Attend talks on creative writing for students, teachers as well as parents
* Join in the ‘Budding Writers Project 2011’ and gain hands-on experience of the publishing process, from editorial, illustration, design, printing, digital conversion to book sales.

There are activities galore, from singing competitions to a Bilingual Olympiad. Check out our events page for the full line-up.

A 'Lifestyle Exhibition’ showcasing a wide range of innovative products from Taiwan to assist and enrich your lifestyle, including houseware, kitchenware, fashion and beauty, consumer electronics, gifts, novelties, arts, crafts, CDs and DVDs.

Writing creatively

Writing creatively is harder than you imagine. Who can even forget Snoopy in the comic strip ‘Peanuts’, whose attempts at storytelling has not gone much beyond the opening line, “It’s a dark and stormy night.”

Planet A Star is conducting a series of talks on creative writing for students, teachers and parents, namely: “What creative writing skills do students need to score an A?”, “Who are qualified to teach creative writing skills?", "How can teachers and parents teach creative writing skills?", and “Can creative writing skills be learnt from reading or do they have to be taught to students?"

Up close with Chinese communities around the world

The Chinese Diaspora is a subject which has fascinated many. The new three-volume book, ‘Where the Sun Shines, There Are Chinese’, is a record of the everyday life of the Chinese in all five continents. Discover Singapore

Co-creator of iconic comic series Mr. Kiasu, James Suresh, tuned in to Singapore to bring you this refreshing travel guide, ‘On A Street In Singapore’. Suresh will give you fresh insights into this country which many of us called home.

Chinese Medicine Explained

Hongchi Xiao retired from a successful career in finance at the age of 40 to embark on a new adventure – to explore Chinese medicine. His search for the Chinese masters and his effort at recovering some of the lost ancient techniques took him to the more remote parts of China, like Mt. Wudang (Hubei Province), Mt. Qingcheng (Sichuan Province) and Mt. Emei (Tibet), as well as Australia, Los Angeles and New York.

Having mastered orthopaedics, point therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion, he has treated thousands of patients from all walks of life. At the SBF, you can meet Master Xiao face-to-face and pick up nuggets of wisdom about Chinese medicine.

Who wants to be a millionaire?

Self-made millionaire Dennis Ng and author of Chinese/English Book, ‘Mastering Your Personal Finance’, will speak on his field of interest, personal finance.

Book publication 101

Ever wonder what it takes to turn a raw manuscript into an eye-catching book? At the SBF, visitors can pop into Budding Writers Project 2011 and gain a first hand experience of the publishing process, from editorial, illustration, design, printing, digital conversion to book sales.

There will also guided tours of the exhibition area at 3.00pm and 5.00pm of May 27, 28 and 29 as well as June 3, 4 and 5.

The Budding Writers Project was launched by Marshall Cavendish in1999 to promote works by children, for children. The competition is open to students from primary and secondary schools. Winning entries are published and sold in bookstores, in the hope of inspiring other young writers and artists to do likewise.
