Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is currently accepting applications for Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) 2011, which is an initiative aiming to offer Asian filmmakers opportunities to make high-quality films and enhance their artistic creativity.
ACF support will be offered in the following three categories: Script Development, Post-production and Documentary (Asian Network of Documentary: AND).
1) Script Development Fund (for fiction feature):
This fund is organized to assist Asian filmmakers in the completion of their script, and help enhance the possibility of the project's eventually being produced. Through this funding scheme, projects will be selected annually for awards of 10,000,000 KRW (Approx. 10,000 USD) each.
2) Post-production Fund (for fiction feature):
Successful applicants in this category will be granted a chance to complete their post-production process at state-of-the-art post facilities in Korea. Selected projects will be provided with a post-production package that includes Digital Intermediate (DI), Inter-negative, A-B print (35mm blow-up) and Final Mixing.
* Additional support for selected Asian projects:
- Round-trip airfare for up to two people
- Single room accommodation at a serviced residence
- Translation service during post-production sessions in Seoul
3) Asian Network of Documentary (AND) Fund:
The purpose of AND is to support Asian documentary filmmakers as well as to form a pan-Asian network that will be of practical help in facilitating distribution and showcasing Asian documentaries. Selected projects will be given either 5,000,000 KRW (Approx. 5,000 USD) or 10,000,000 KRW (Approx. 10,000 USD) each.
What’s new in ACF 2011?
Especially in 2011, AND launched new fund grant ‘DMZ Fund’ in collaboration with DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival (aka. DMZ DOCS) in Korea. It aims to support Asian film directors who plan to shoot stories in and about conflict areas, with an emphasis on communication and peace settlements. The number of projects and amount of support will be adjusted according to the caliber of the submissions.
