The Nineteenth Annual Chinese Poetry Recitation Contest organized by The Chinese Studies Center and The Chinese Culture Club in collaboration with the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, California State University, Los Angeles
Poetry is the essence of Chinese language, literature, and culture. The Chinese Studies Center is hosting its Nineteenth Annual Chinese Poetry Recitation Contest on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. This contest is open to all college and university students in Southern California. Through this event, we hope to stimulate a greater interest in Chinese poetry and to promote interactions between higher education institutions and the Chinese community. We are grateful to our donors, Major Tsai and Monique Wu, and to our judges, Betty Cheung, Monique Wu, Wen-hsiung Yen, and Doris Yu, for their support of this event.
Date & Time: Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 1:30-4:00 P.M.
Location: University-Student Union Theatre, Room 106, California State University, Los Angeles, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90032
Awards:
Every contestant will receive a prize and a certificate of recognition. Heritage and non-heritage speakers of Chinese will be judged separately. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and two 3rd place winners at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Contest Rules:
The attached PDF file provides the designated poems for the contest. Each contestant will recite the designated poem for his/her class level. Recitations will be judged based on the following criteria: (1) pronunciation and intonation, (2) emotion and expression, and (3) body gestures and costumes/props.
Contest Registration
Please complete the attached registration form and email it to Professor Kylie Hsu by Friday, May 6, 2011. Incomplete or late registrations will not be accepted.
