POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Editor, provides English writing service for all publications and the website of WCMC-Q. The primary focus will be the updating of text content for the website, and obtaining timely and accurate information from all departments within WCMC-Q.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Under the supervision of the Editor provides English writing support for updating press information and media kits.
• Working with colleagues in the department, researches and provides content of press information such as management biographies and other materials.
• Develops WCMC-Q media information – i.e. summaries of the operations of the college containing statistical facts and figures.
• Works with departments to update content on the website.
• Works closely with the Arabic writer to ensure English text is translated into Arabic and produced as required.
• Works closely with the photographer to provide captions to digital images.
• Supports the Public Affairs Specialist with the writing of materials required for events at WCMC-Q.
• Performs other job related-duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• BA in Journalism or English or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in the fields of public relations; press office/media relations and/or journalism.
• Previously demonstrated experience working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
• Advanced level English oral presentation and written communication skills.
• Previously demonstrated proficiency in office terminology and computer applications, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Prior writing for a publishing house, commercial organization or as a journalist.
• Prior experience in the US and Middle East, specifically Qatar.
• Prior experience writing text for websites, or health, medical and science related articles/text for organizations
• Medical/Scientific writing experience and an understanding of complex scientific and health related/medical terms.
• Ability to read and write Arabic.
• Previously demonstrated success in developing and fostering a cooperative collaborative work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is completed in office environment.
• Approximately 70% is computer based.
• The job requires extended and varying work hours to meet demands.

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation.

The first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level, WCMC-Q offers an integrated program of pre-medical and medical studies leading to the Cornell University M.D. degree. Teaching is by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty, including physicians at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) who hold Weill Cornell appointments.
