POSITION SUMMARY

Assists the Director of Public Affairs in managing the English writing services for all publications and the website of WCMC-Q. Oversees all the production of the college’s magazine, annual reports, e-bulletins and website, and manages the writing team. Provides research, writing, editing and proofreading services to support the programs and publications of WCMC-Q.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Researches, writes, edits and manages all written communication projects to include chronicle of WCMC-Q history and on-going development activities.

b. Researches, writes, edits and manages the production and annual revisions of copy for the WCMC-Q admissions brochure and catalogue, in consultation with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education; the Director, Public Affairs and the Associate Deans.

c. Compiles and writes press releases.

d. Researches, writes, edits and manages newsletter production. Polls faculty and staff for ideas on story-line development.

e. Writes copy for WCMC-Q website.

f. Provides editing and proof-reading support to originators of material to ensure all copy in reports and publications is clear, meticulously edited, and conforms to WCMC-Q standards.

g. Provides speaking points, copy for scripts and written materials for all forms of communication.

h. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• BA in Journalism or English or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10 or more years of experience in the fields of public relations; press office/media relations and/or journalism.
• Previously demonstrated experience working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
• Advanced level English oral presentation and written communication skills.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Prior writing for a publishing house, commercial organization or as a journalist.
• Prior experience in the US and Middle East, specifically Qatar.
• Prior experience writing text for websites, or health, medical and science related articles/text for organizations
• Medical/Scientific writing experience and an understanding of complex scientific and health related/medical terms.
• Ability to read and write Arabic.
• Previously demonstrated success in developing and fostering a cooperative collaborative work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is completed in office environment.
• Approximately 60% is computer based.
• The job requires extended and varying work hours to meet demands.
Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation.

The first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level, WCMC-Q offers an integrated program of pre-medical and medical studies leading to the Cornell University M.D. degree. Teaching is by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty, including physicians at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) who hold Weill Cornell appointments.
