Submission Guidelines : Special Anthology for Japan Sponsored by Pirene’s Fountain
As many of you know, Pirene’s Fountain is putting together an anthology of poems, flash fiction, essays, and black & white illustrations. Send us what you like, but please keep in mind: the shorter the piece, the more we can get in. Poems no longer than two pages, flash fiction keep to one page, essays and short stories no longer than five pages. Obviously we are looking for excellent writing, regardless of the length. We will be reading and making selections in summer, but interested writers and artists who are committed to completing other projects in the near future, may continue to send in their work through October.
This anthology will be sent to press sometime late fall for a December 2011 release. Since this is primarily a fund raising project, we will be unable to send anyone free contributor copies. As soon as we have finalized such details as the press /vendor, etc., we will contact you so you can purchase a copy. At that time, we would greatly appreciate your posting a link for interested friends/family members/colleagues who might like to purchase the book. All costs associated with publishing will be funded by Pirene’s Fountain. ALL proceeds from the sale of the anthology will go toward relief efforts for Japan.
It may take us a while before we are able to sort out all the submissions and then make a decision on which pieces to select for inclusion in the anthology. If your piece is not selected, please do not feel slighted. We will need to balance out the entire issue in hopes of presenting a diversity of material while avoiding duplication. Unfortunately, we have a limited space in the print format.
We are extremely grateful to you for participating in this project even if it happens that your piece is not selected. If your piece is selected, we would appreciate your holding off on posting an announcement at least until early summer in fairness to other submitters whose work we may hold for a later decision.
50-150 word contributor notes will be published at the end of the book. Please send an appropriate bio if you have not done so already--it will make retrieval easier for us if everything is in one folder.
Please feel free to send us a suggestion for the title of this anthology. We will collect all the titles and will include the name of the person whose title we select on the same page we have our cover artist’s name.
If you are sending us a written piece published previously in a book, journal or anthology, please make sure you have written permission from the publisher which you can forward to us. We will not consider any work for which written permission from the publisher has not been granted.
Again, we are very grateful for the immediate response to our initial submissions call. We hope that with your help, we can make this a worthwhile project.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email me and I will try my best to address your inquiries.
