British Council Essay Writing Contest Guidelines
This essay contest is organised by the British Council Philippines and St. Edmund’s College.
The topic of the essay is “Why do I want to go to the UK?”
All applicants who wish to enter the contest must abide by all the guidelines, terms and conditions set forth by the British Council Philippines.
1. FORMS
All entries should be type-written in essay format and in English, with a minimum of 300 words and maximum of 500 words, complete with bibliographical notes.
All entries must be type written on A4 size bond paper using MS Word, font size 12, font Times New Roman and double-spaced, with 3/4th inch margins top and bottom and ½ inch margins left and right.
2. DELIVERY OF ENTRIES
All entries should be placed in a letter envelope addressed and sent via registered mail, courier or personally delivered with signed receipts, to:

3. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the competition, candidates should be Philippine passport holders and aged 12-15 years old as of 1st January 2011.
4. JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
The entries shall be judged, in the first round to determine the 5 finalists, on the basis of the following criteria:
a) substance, content, originality, analysis and adherence to the Essay theme (65%)
b) style, organisation and creativity (20%)
c) logic, organisation and coherence (15%)
5. PRIZE
British Council will provide return airfare, Manila terminal fee, visa processing fee and tuition for the three-week summer camp on 31 July to 20 August 2011. The visa processing fee will be refunded to the winner upon presentation of official receipt from VFS.
6. ARRANGEMENTS
All submitted essays will become property of the British Council.
The winner should make arrangements with his/her school with regard to the absences that will be incurred for the summer school.
If in case the winner cannot attend the camp, notice should be made to the British Council at least 8 weeks prior to the departure. In this case, the prize will be forfeited in favour of the next in rank. If cancellation is made after the 8 week period, the prize will be forfeited altogether.
All prizes are not convertible to cash.
The decision of the British Council will be final and non-appealable.
The submission of entry confirms acceptance of these terms and conditions.
7. CHILD PROTECTION STATEMENT
