Job Profile

Senior newsgathering journalist in the Broadcast centre, managing the news desk to ensure high quality, accurate news is produced which is targeted to the AJE audience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for broadcasting news in line with the AJE news agenda
• Responsible for preparing prospects for the day’s stories.
• Managing the Newsdesk, working closely with the Programme Editors in deciding and driving the days editorial agenda
• Assigning and liaising with teams in the field.
• Responsible for the overall logistics involved in bringing in recorded material and lives.
• Brief the Broadcast Centre coming on air next.
• Representing AJI in field whilst covering stories
• Be aware of how a stories shape is affected by the different AJE programmes
• Get involved in a variety of other special one-off projects
• Take on other roles at short notice
• Recognise and shape stories which are in line with AJE News agenda
• Use Browse Edit to produce packages

• Proven ability to manage a large team of people working in a busy international newsroom.
• Ability to lead a team and drive story ideas of international quality.
• Sharp journalist judgement.
• A Flexible approach to both tasks and schedules
• A cool and calm manner under pressure
• IT Literate
• Perseverance and stamina
• An eye for detail, taking responsibility to ensure stories are factually accurate and informative
• An acute understanding of AJI news agenda and viewer
