DOHA BLOOMSBURY Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) will partner the Qatar Marine Library during the second annual Qatar Marine Festival (QMF) to sponsor a contest on marine related poetry.
The development of local poetry has been an important theme for BQFP in supporting aspiring writers in the community.
This contest is the latest in a series of events, including poetry slams in the December 2009 International Book Fair, and an SMS Poetry Contest with Vodafone in April 2010.
The marine festival will run from March 16 to 26 at the eastside beachfront of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).
Poets will be invited to respond to the themes of marine life in general or Qatar’s marine history in particular (pearl diving, fishing, etc).
The poets will be allowed one submission in one category.
Submissions must be new work, inspired by the themes of marine life or Qatar’s marine history.
Prizes will be awarded according to age groups, including 13-17; 18-22; 23 and over.
For the contest, entries must be sent via email to bqfp.events@qf.org.qa by March 20 with an indication of which age category the poet is submitting the entry to.
Poems can be written and read in English or Arabic.
Finalist poets will be invited to read their entry in front of a diverse audience, including judges, families and children on March 23at 7.00pm at the Qatar Marine Library pavilion.
