Twenty contemporary poets including Kimiko Hahn and Tina Chang read a favorite poem by Elizabeth Bishop in honor of her centenary on February 8 at the Great Hall of Cooper Union, with actors reading excerpts from the new volume of her correspondence, Elizabeth Bishop and The New Yorker. Aside from Hahn and Chang, the event featured Elizabeth Alexander, John Ashbery, Frank Bidart, Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Jonathan Galassi, Richard Howard, Marie Howe, Yusef Komunyakaa, David Lehman, Paul Muldoon, Robert Polito, Marie Ponsot, Vijay Seshadri, Tom Sleigh, Mark Strand, Tracy K. Smith and Jean Valentine. The event was a collaboration of the Poetry Society of America, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Poets House and the Unterberg Poetry Center.
