Background

Deloitte is implementing the Afghanistan Civil Service Support (ACSS) program funded by USAID in support of the Government of Afghanistan’s Independent Administrative Reform Civil Service Commission and its national reform campaign. We seek highly capable, motivated and serious professionals to work in this position. This donor-funded position will strengthen the Government of Afghanistan’s commitment to improve the delivery of critical public services to the people of Afghanistan.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Full responsibility for translation work carried out by Sr. translators;
• Develop and update translation department policy in consultation with the management;
• Schedule the work of each team member. Projects should be allocated to team members according to their experience of subject matter and their level of proficiency in target language. Ensuring every team member organizes his/her work in the most effective manner using their maximum potential;
• Review and proofread translated documents to ensure the quality of deliverables is above or in line with clients’ expectations;
• Actively engage in translation of documents to assist the team meet tight deadlines;
• Ensure the correct creation, management and adoption of technical terminology for all projects;
• Build strong relationship with clients where appropriate to ensure good communication on linguistic matters and clients expected timelines. If requested deadlines cannot be met, notify the client in good time to explain reasons and propose realistic alternatives;
• Ensure there is enough resource in the department to handle expected load of work. Working with relevant supervisor and Human Resource Manager to identify recruitment needs. Help in recruitment process through conducting translation tests of potential candidates;
• Maintain electronic copies of all translated documents and retrieve them upon request.
• Strictly adhere to the principle of confidentiality of information;
• Prepare monthly translation report specifying the work assigned to translators and the output level of the department;
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and necessary within the area of responsibilities.

Academic and Professional Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree and at least 5+ years of experience in translation/management
• Excellent written knowledge of English and Dari/Pashto
• Sound judgment, reasoning and problem-solving skills
• Excellent project management, time-management and staff management skills
• Computer literacy, including knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, and Power Point applications)
• Excellent inter-personal, communications and coordination skills
