Job Profile
The Programme Editor is a senior editorial figure responsible for producing the business show. The programme editor sets the running order, leads a team of output staff to create the show, and then takes it to air as the senior journalist in the control room.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• To oversee the daily editorial content and production of the business programme
• To assess new information and react quickly to breaking news
• To take responsibility for all content within the programme
• To liaise with news desk and planning on coverage of stories
• To view edited reports and take responsibility for clearing them for broadcast
• To manage, motivate and organise staff for peak performance
• To know Al Jazeera style guidelines and ensure content is consistent with network goals and international law
• To manage presenters and communicate programme's goals to them
• To originate and develop ideas and stories
• To incorporate web site coverage where appropriate
Essential Skills
• Proven editorial decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Understanding of Al Jazeera's programming mission and philosophy. Ability to work effectively and calmly.
• Must be experienced in control room situations and be able to react quickly and effectively to breaking news.
• Position requires impeccable news judgment, critical and strategic thinking, organizational skills, and an ability to be persistent yet diplomatic.
• Understanding of 24 hour news cycle required.
• Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing priorities
• Uncompromising standards of accuracy, excellent communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude are required.
Working Experience
5 years in related TV news production experience
Academic / Education Qualification
Possession of a recognized journalistic qualification
