Deadline: 5 April 2011
High School Essay Contest
If you are a high school student with an interest in East Asia, the Asian Studies Program at Georgetown University invites you to enter our East Asia essay contest this spring for a chance to present your paper to Georgetown faculty, students, and the general public at a scholarly conference in the first week of May. The conference will be a great opportunity for the contest winner and one runner-up to network with influential Georgetown faculty and staff and will be an impressive addition to a resume. Both contestants’ presentations will be filmed and podcasted for the Asian Studies Program’s website and Georgetown University’s iTunes U page. The contest winner will also receive a $200 cash prize.
Georgetown will reimburse the winner and runner-up for their travel expenses, including roundtrip economy airfare for the two contestants, and one night’s hotel accommodation in Georgetown arranged by the university.
Essays may be written about any Asia related topic of the student’s choosing, and the student whose essay most aptly demonstrates a robust understanding of the topic will be selected. All essays must be between 7-10 pages in length, not including bibliography, and must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Your name, grade, school, and contact information must appear on the first page of the essay. U.S. and non-U.S. citizens may apply. High school students may submit their essays directly to the Asia Studies Program or a teacher may submit an essay on a student’s behalf.
All essays must be emailed to Kat Harrington at krh45@georgetown.edu. You will receive an email confirming your entry into the contest. If you have any questions, you may contact Kat by email or call 202-687-7163.
