TABOAN: The Philippine Writers Festival 2011 Opens February 10th
Dates: 10 - 12 February 2011

First organized in 2009, the Taboan International Writers Festival is an annual gathering of writers from the Philippines and other parts of the world.

Taboan is a Bisaya word which means marketplace.

In keeping with its word origin, the Taboan International Writers Festival seeks to be a marketplace of ideas for the Philippine literary community.

At Taboan, writers share their experiences, projects, philosophies, and styles. From this exchange, Taboan hopes to foster new inspirations and new ventures. For veteran writers, Taboan is a reunion of friends and once-familiar faces now dispersed across the regions. For young writers, Taboan is a time to meet mentors, peers, and collaborators.

Now on its third year, TABOAN: The Philippine Writers Festival 2011 will be held in Davao City in Mindanao , the southernmost island in the country, on Feb. 10-12, 2011. The word TABOAN is a Cebuano word meaning “meeting place” or “a place for trading” goods or ideas. It will gather for three days some seventy to eighty national and international writers who will read from their new works, or share ideas about the craft of writing and its future in a highly technological world, and discuss the situation of writing in the regions or in the other countries. International writers, especially from the ASEAN countries will be invited. The festival will feature the theme “Traditions and the New.”

The Festival will have the following components: (1) panel discussions on sundry topics, (2) conversations with writers or writers groups, (3) lectures by writers on topics of their own choice, (4) an outreach—or school visitation— program, (5) a book fair, (6) literary readings and performances, and (7) the TABOAN Awards night. Also, scaled-down versions of TABOAN will be held in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao , and NCR where the literary word will be celebrated by local groups of writers.
