Stories from Oman: Dar Al Atta'a 5th Children's Writing Competition

The Dar Al Atta'a Let's Read Committee is pleased to announce the launch of its 5th Children's Writing Competition

The theme of this year's competition is: Stories from Oman

Students are invited to enter the competition with the chance to win great prizes and the opportunity to see their work in print.

This broad title allows for students to base their story on existing Omani folklore or to write a completely imaginary, fictitious story set in Oman. Alternatively, students could recount a real life adventure they have had in Oman.

The story can be set in any era; past, present or future.

Stories must be clearly typed in either English or Arabic. Stories must be the individual student's own work and not copied, written or illustrated by older children or adults.

Stories should be a maximum of 500 words.

An illustration( max.A4 size) should be attached to the story. Both papers must be clearly marked with the title of the story, student's name, age and school.

The telephone number and email address of the school clearly marked.

Closing date for entries: Sunday 6th March 2011

All entries to be delivered to the Dar Al Atta'a Offices:

Entries will be judged on effort, originality, presentation and illustrations according to three age categories: 4 to 8 years, 9 to 13 years and 14 to 18 years.

Maximum age: 18 years

The winners of the writing competition will be announced at the Big Book Day on Thursday 5th May from 2pm to 6pm at the Capital Commercial Centre (CCC) in Qurum.
