Job Description
The BBC World Service Trust is the BBC's international development agency. Working in over 40 countries worldwide, the Trust uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights. In Bangladesh, the Trust is supporting and expanding programming in its key areas of focus. This has included a governance intiative in partnership with the BBC Bengali Service entitled Sanglap (weekly debates on television and radio). It has also launched a major project under English in Action designed to use the media to improve the English language skills of adults in Bangladesh. Core activities include factual and drama television programs, mobile and online learning products and content for radio.
The BBC World Service Trust is now seeking a Bangla Copy Writer / Editor to assist in managing its significant operations and in communicating effectively in Bangla with its target audience in Bangladesh. Based in our modern offices in Dhaka, this is an opportunity to work on the Bangla copy of an interesting range of English language learning materials across different media platforms. Working to the Interactive Bangla Editor and as part of the BBC World Service Trust's interactive content team, the Bangla Copy Writer / Editor will be required to:
Education
* Education up to Honor's level or equivalent
Category
* Arts, Entertainment, Sports & Media

Additional Requirement
* Significant experience of writing and editing Bangla copy for publication online or in print
* Experience of working with translators and of translation from English to Bangla
* Experience of updating a website, ideally using a Content Management System, is desirable
* An understanding of media and, in particular, new media and how to exploit it to the benefit of the BBC World Service Trust is desirable
* Experience of working in international organisations as a copy writer or editor or as part of the product development team is desirable.
* Good interpersonal skills and, in particular, the ability to work as part of a tem and to establish effective working relationships
* Excellent spoken and written communication skills in both English and Bangla
* Ability to work in a fast paced environment
* Ability to manage a busy workload effectively and high degree of flexibility in adapting to frequently shifting priorities and deadlines
* Attention to detail
