Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese, from September 1, 2011 on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. Appointees with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature or related areas. They should pursue an active agenda of research and publication that can complement and reinforce the Programme's strengths in the board spectrum of Chinese literary studies and bring additional dimensions to the School¡¦s missions. The successful applicant should possess expertise in modern and contemporary Chinese literature. Preference will be given to candidates whose area of specialization includes more than one of the following regions: Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The ability to develop and conduct courses that are consonant with the curricular needs of the Programme and to inspire creative and critical reflection on vital literary issues will be a definite advantage. The School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical/dental benefits.
