Deadline Extended: Maganda Magazine's "Anonymous" Issue
Deadline: 21 January 2011 (from 31 December 2010)

ISSUE 24: ANONYMOUS submissions are now due JANUARY 21st!

We are happy to announce that we are accepting submissions for our annual issue to be published at the end of Spring 2011. This year we hope to inspire artists with our theme, Anonymous.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Anonymity frees us…

Anonymous we are able to

… scrawl our love for a taken floormate.

… sleep during lecture.

… snitch on annoying neighbors.

Anonymity changes us…

… lessens the consequences of our actions.

… changes us from individuals to a random collection of numbers, a blur of faces.

Anonymous is the new identity that we can slip onto as we rate professors, complain about restaurants, and secretly retaliate against those who have crossed us. Here, we are able to become someone we are not.

Anonymous is a choice. We put a mask upon our faces in order to be ourselves, but more daring, or crueler, or kinder, or all three. Yet, sometimes unknown, we surrender certain rights. Sometimes, we become powerless to the forces that push and pull.

And often, we ride the lines between choosing and being chosen to be unnamed. In the process, we muddle the facts that establish anonymity as beneficial or harmful. Conflicting ideas about our own identity arise as we try to find who we are and who we want to be.
