The role combines driving Zawya's ambitious news creation and acquisition strategy and the day-to-day reponsibility of ensuring the key pages of the site highlight the top stories shaping the MENA business landscape.
Major Responsibilities:
* Manage a team of news editors and associates to ensure Zawya has the latest stories on each of the home, country and sector pages
* Build a team of reporters who will write stories closely aligned with the needs of Zawya members
* Create new news products and services and collaborate with other content heads to serve their news requirements
* Work across other content departments and co-ordinate with other stakeholders on key pages to ensure that Zawya's most important content is displayed on the site in an attractive manner
* Write agenda-setting columns/blogs for various parts of the site and for other media
* Identify new syndicate providers, lead negotiations and secure new content for the company
* Maintain and build relationship with existing syndication providers
* Manage content budgets
* Create and manage newsletters and provide guidance and content support for newsletters of other product managers
* Quality control of news content
* Work with Human Resources Head to recruit and retain talent and ensure their well-being, productivity levels and create a career ladder
* Report progress, or otherwise, on each of the responsibilities mentioned above.
Requirements:
* University/college degree or equivalent is well regarded, ideally in commerce, economics or accounting
* Experience of newswires, newspaper and online media a must.
* Strong editorial, reporting and writing skills essential.
* At least 8-10 years experience and in-depth knowledge of Middle East business environment and financial jargon
* Be a strong team player. A huge responsibility within the role involves discussions with various stakeholders to bring them to an agreeable solution. Diplomacy, soft skills and tact are central to this role
* Ability to discuss complex business issues of the day with industry players
* Commercially astute and able to negotiate with international syndication providers and proven ability to manage budgets
* Demonstrated superior strategic ability and deep understanding of Middle East business community
* Comfortable with data and analyses
* Ability to work under pressure on tight deadlines
* Entrepreneurial. Demonstrated ability to build and scale editorial/content operations in multiple media and languages
* Familiar with social media and online trends, understanding of design and packaging of online content an advantage
* Be the company's ambassador and able to express his/her views on TV and radio and become an independent expert on the region.
