JOB DESCRIPTION - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We require a capable sub-editor to join a hard-driving North Asian filing editors' team sprinkled across Greater China and South Korea, to be based in Seoul. The successful candidate will help steer financial and political news coverage out of the world's hottest and fastest-developing region. He or she must demonstrate a steady hand at editing and publishing everything from rapid-fire news alerts on groundbreaking financial developments to anchoring fast, multimedia coverage of geopolitical events.
With South Korea at the epicenter of the financial crisis in Asia and China emerging on the global stage, the region offers the successful candidate the opportunity to get involved in some of the most widely read stories on the Reuters news file today.They must demonstrate a quick and accurate eye for detail on urgent stories, while guiding a plethora of in-depth and specialist copy that frequently revolves around China. The successful candidate should show a keen interest in business news, displaying proficiency in explaining and adding value to company news from the North Asia region, which encompasses corporations from Samsung and Lenovo to the world's largest banks in China.The ideal candidate will have experience covering financial markets, be quick and willing to learn Reuters drills, codes and style, and be comfortable weaving in the value and risk elements that financial industry readers require from our stories. Enthusiasm for the story and a willingness to feed ideas into the news editing process are also required.Experience will be key in coaching a team of young reporters, acting as a guardian of Reuters drill, style and editorial policy and ensuring the day-to-day competitiveness of the file.
The North Asia filing editor will be a member of the North Asia filing network now based in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul, which works closely with specialist editors and specialist correspondents to provide well-contexted and brightly written news for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Editing stories and ensuring they meet Reuters standards for accuracy, speed and quality;
* Subbing across the file with a strong emphasis on the fast-moving and evolving company and treasury news segments;
* Working with the Asia specialist editors, bureau correspondents and the Asia Investment Desk on top stories and priorities:
* Liaising with specialist reporters and other regions to ensure the file has a cross-sector and global flavour.
Qualifications
* Proven track record of reporting, writing and editing financial news.
* A quick and accurate editor who homes in on golden quotes, significant context and defining details to bring out the broader significance of the news while keeping the copy moving.
* Knowledge of Reuters drill, style and codes and an understanding of their importance is an advantage.
* Strong news judgment with an understanding of client requirements across a range of assets. Experience in company/business news is an advantage.
* An ability to spot trends and highlight their likely impact for a cross-market readership.
* Experience using analytical tools to highlight significant details investors need from Reuters.
* Ability to explain important developments in complex oil markets to a wider audience.
* A good team player who will work proactively with reporters to improve stories.
* Strong English-language and written communication skills.
