Media Support Partnership Afghanistan MSPA is a local Afghan NGO, registered in October 2005, affiliated to Media Support Solutions (MSS www.mediasupport.org), the head office of which is based in Scotland. MSS provide technical assistance for capacity building, management support and financial auditing to MSPA. MSPA provide regular financial reports to donors on a quarterly and yearly basis.

MSS is also managing and/or helping develop programmes in Guyana, Mozambique, Botswana, Zambia, Somalia, Madagascar and Ethiopia.

MSS has been involved in broadcasting to Afghanistan for the past four years. Several of its senior staff have broadcasting experience of Afghanistan over the past 15 – 20 years.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Follow news developments throughout Afghanistan
•Work with reporters and stringers to develop daily news agenda
•Work with reporters to develop individual stories; in general, the team will produce 3-4 news stories every day
•Edit the stories for accuracy, conformity with the standards and ethics of journalism, as well as the overall style approved for MNSP product
•Maintain good working relationships within the newsroom
•Develop a good working relationship with the stringers employed by Mahaal; work with them on story ideas and development of individual pieces
•Work with training coordinator to ensure overall quality of the product
•Attend all training events, workshops, etc., along with the reporters to ensure that the editor and reporters are working from the same guidance
•Other duties as assigned (Anything in regard to uploading the story to the website/s, making sure radio stations have taken stories)
•Work on weekends and some late evening duties are expected of the editor for which there is no overtime paid.
•Editors may be required some time for out of station (Kabul) work-which could include training other journalists or Mahaal provincial/local stingers, for which out of station per diem shall be paid according to MSPA’s standard per diem rate-provided Editor spends 24 hours on duty out of Kabul.

• Commitment to working long hours as needed to get the job done
