Faculty positions for College of Arts and Sciences

American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education formed on American models. The university is licensed in the United Arab Emirates and incorporated in the state of Delaware in the United States. It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and by the Ministry of Higher Education in the UAE. All instruction (except languages) is in English, and English is widely spoken throughout the United Arab Emirates.

The university is located 10 miles from the center of Sharjah City and 15 miles from the city of Dubai. The Emirate of Sharjah is situated between the shores of the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and has beautiful beaches and lovely varied countryside. The architecturally distinctive campus, located on 316 acres, includes nine academic buildings; administration, library and athletic structures; and accommodations for faculty, staff and students. Academic buildings are equipped with state-of-the art science, engineering and language laboratories, digital studios and computer facilities. Currently, AUS has approximately 5,225 students, 351 full-time faculty and over 400 full-time staff.

Department of English, Faculty Post in ESP and EST

The Department of English at the American University of Sharjah seeks a full-time faculty member with a specialty in English for Specific Purposes

(ESP) to teach courses in English for Business and English for Science & Technology (EST).

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and a scholarly publication record. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in outreach programs related to ESP & EST, teaching non-native English speakers at the university level, and teaching in a liberal arts environment. Work experience in the industry is also beneficial.

Faculty position in Performing Arts Program

The American University of Sharjah Performing Arts Program, housed with the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for an assistant professor appointment in costume design. This faculty member will join a small, but growing program, which includes theatre and music, and has an active production schedule. We seek a teacher/practitioner who will teach introductory courses in theatre, as well as specialized courses in costume and make-up design. Responsibilities will include designing and building costumes for 2-3 theatre productions per academic year. In addition, the successful candidate will be instrumental in contributing to curriculum creation and development for the first academic costume design program on the Arabian Peninsula. We are especially interested in candidates who are able to teach broadly within the theatre discipline, who are committed to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment, and enjoy working in a small, collegial setting. A terminal degree in Theatre is required; professional design experience is a plus. AUS is located in the city of Sharjah, approximately 15 miles from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

Faculty Position in Advertising Department of Mass Communication

The department of Mass Communication at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, is opening a faculty position in Advertising.

Candidates will have a proven record in teaching theoretical and practical courses in advertising. The ideal candidate will have an educational background in advertising, coupled with industry and teaching experience. A PhD or terminal degree is preferred, although the search committee will read applications from master's degree holders with significant industry experience. In addition to teaching and supervising students, the faculty member is expected to contribute to the department's development and to show an interest in networking with the industry, locally and regionally. The appointment is for three years, renewable. Depending on the qualifications, the appointment may be made at the rank of instructor, assistant, associate or full professor.
